Sungmi Telecom's R&D Institute has been meeting the challenges of developing the latest telecommunication equipment with a spirit of boldness in preparation for the information society of the 21st century.

Sungmi Telecom remains committed to maintaining a superior team of engineers who make up more than 20% of the entire staff. In addition, Sungmi Telecom's consistent commitment to investing 10% of annual profits in R&D has resulted in the development of over 90 new and innovative products thus far. These aspects in addition to the computerization of the R&D sector in 1995, contribute to the development of an integrated information and communications R&D Institute at Sungmi Telecom.

Sungmi Telecom has led the field in the development work of equipment for implementation of Multimedia Services, the construction of Information Super Highway and recently, the development of Frequency Conversion Repeaters (Mini Cell) and Wireless Local Loop(WLL) systems. Other products include improved model of 155Mbps Synchronous Transmission system(SDH-MUX), 2.5Gbps Synchronous Transmission system(SMX－16), as well as Digital Microwave Transmission equipment. As a result of these efforts, Sungmi Telecom was awarded the grand prize for its R&D Institute, based on the evaluation of the Ministry Science and Technology. In the near future, Sungmi Telecom's R&D institute is planning to   contribute to the building up of the Information Super Highway infrastructure through the development of 10G/100G large capacity Optical Transmission equipment as well as diverse Local Loop equipment including the FTTO, FTTC, and FTTH. In the area of wireless transmission, Sungmi Telecom will focus on the development of the latest Wireless transmission equipment for the future including MMDS(Multichannel Multipoint Distribution System), HFR(Hybrid Fiber Radio), and IMT-2000. In the area of wire transmission, Sungmi Telecom will look to diversify the development of equipment for the latest subscriber equipment including Internet Phone Gateway System, as well as ADSL, DSL Lite and ATM-MUX.

With the final purpose of making information transmission and service possible at anytime, and anywhere, Sungmi Telecom's R&D institute is exerting its utmost with the latest in integrated information transmission technology for the construction of a Super Highway in integrated information transmission network.
